Emily’s House Celebrates “WHERE LOVE LIVES” a Gala at Casa Loma
Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Casa Loma, The Glass Pavilion Room, Toronto

Emily’s House — Toronto’s first children’s hospice – provides integrated respite and paediatric palliative care in a home-like setting. Many of the children in our care are referred to us from SickKids hospital. Emily’s House provides 24/7 clinical / nursing care and medical necessities, while increasing quality-of-life through play, music, recreation, outings and visits according to a child’s unique needs.

Our goal for this year’s gala event is to raise funds for a garden and outdoor upgrades at Emily’s House, plus “Days of Care” for children with a life-limiting illness. These kids want to play outside, go on excursions, participate in therapeutic / recreational play, while being as medically stable and comforted as possible in our hospice home. With Emily’s House as a home base and our wide range of compassionate hospice programs, all this and more is possible, for children and youth in our care.  Let them feel: “where love lives.”

Testimonial – from an Emily’s House volunteer’s experience at playtime: “I sat on the floor playing Barbies in the water with Linda*, when it started to rain outside.  She began singing “The Sun Will Come out Tomorrow.”  She was shocked when I started singing with her.  She is actually quite a good singer, although she has to gasp sometimes to get her breath. I asked her to sing it for the nurses but, she refused since they had told her she needed a nap…. I thought the song was a bit prolific, since it talks about what we are there for.  We are always hoping for one more day, and that the sun will come out tomorrow.”
